Celebrate the grand opening of the new Olathe Indian Creek Library (16100 W. 135th St)!
In addition to specialized children, teen and adult service areas, the new 47,000 sq. ft. library will feature some unique spaces. The Collaborative Commons will house Park Street Pastry Café and a variety of seating and tables for meet-ups, studying and reading. Small meeting rooms will offer more options to collaborate and a reading room will accommodate those seeking a quiet space. A large event space will seat 250 auditorium-style for a concert or 160 at tables for a business workshop or wedding reception. The space can be converted into two rooms when needed and will have a catering kitchen for special events. The Makerspace will support equipment for creating and experimenting, such as 3D Printers, vinyl cutters, a laminator and hand tools. Instructional classes will offer customers a chance to learn new skills. For audio and visual productions, the AV Recording Studio will contain digital recording and
editing software, green screen, cameras and other production equipment to produce school projects, music recordings, commercials and more. Gamers will find a room outfitted for all types of gaming with screens and projectors. Windows will fill the library with light and views of nature as the interior spaces give way to the outdoors. An outdoor courtyard and children’s reading garden will transition to a green space and connect to a new two-acre city park and playground. Grand opening will be Saturday, October 19.
Address: 16100 W. 135th St. Olathe, Kansas 66062
Other notable features:
An exciting feature of the new library will be a bubble wall in the Children's area. The bubble wall will separate the Children’s program room from the main marketplace of the library. At 20’ wide and 14’ high the wall will be visible from almost anywhere in the library.
The bubble wall will be illuminated with an LED lighting system, which will provide an unlimited color palette to choose from and pre-programmed light shows that will entertain people of all ages. The combination of colorful lighting, water and bubbles will create a soothing gathering place and tap into a child’s sense of wonder and imagination.
The Children’s area will feature an Everbright. This interactive display made up of hundreds of adjustable LED dials that rotate endlessly in either direction, changing color as they turn, which allows for the creation of patterns and shapes. Everbright invites children to engage in interactive and open-ended play that will help develop their creativity, making, and STEAM skills. It’s not just for kids, though; individuals from every age group can interact with the Everbright, and it will be especially appealing to people on the autism spectrum.
