If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like in a museum after hours, this fall you can find out! Join an exclusive club of overnight visitors for the opportunity to experience the Glore Psychiatric Museum during the “Spend the Night at the Museum” event. The event will be held on Saturday, October 6 at the Museum, which is located at 3406 Frederick Avenue, in St. Joseph, Missouri. Participants will learn in-depth about the Glore Psychiatric Museum and its beginnings from the museum staff, tour the tunnels, learn about the history of asylums, and participate in a paranormal investigation led by A.P.E.X Paranormal. Participants will have time to explore on their own and choose a place to sack out for the night. Guests are asked to bring their own sleeping bag or air mattress. The Museum will provide dinner, movie entertainment, snacks, and breakfast the following morning.
“What was known as ‘State Lunatic Asylum No. 2’ when it opened in 1874 has a fascinating history. The Glore Psychiatric Museum, located on the grounds of the former hospital, has hosted overnight visitors a few times now and it is always an amazing experience for the guests and our staff. We look forward to sharing this once-in-a-lifetime experience with 30 adventurous people. We are already busy planning an educational and entertaining experience for our brave guests,” said St. Joseph Museums Executive Director Sara Wilson.
The space is limited to 30 guests who must be at least 18 years of age. The cost is $125 per person, which includes the guided tour, dinner, movie, snacks, paranormal investigation, the overnight stay, and breakfast. Paid reservations are required. Please call (816) 232-8471 to reserve your space or stop by the Glore Psychiatric Museum, 3406 Frederick Avenue, to purchase tickets. For more information, visit stjosephmuseum.org/events.
