Oceans of Possibilities Summer Library Program at Mid-Continent Public Library, May 31-August 23, 2022

Reading can take you anywhere, even the ocean! Join Mid-Continent Public Library to dive into books, events, and prizes this summer.

Kids (age 0-19) who read at least 20 minutes a day can earn up to three free books, one of four grand prizes, a Kindle Fire, and a chance to win tickets to our Community Partners: Science City, Sea Life Kansas City, Kansas City Royals, and Kansas City Zoo.

Adults can participate and win, too! Modeling good reading habits or joining a family book group can create a lifelong love of books and reading.

Kids and families who attend our “mermazing” events can count those toward reading minutes. Choose from Ocean Magic with Tommy Terrific, High Seas Adventures, Waves of Laughter, Recycled CD Fish, and more, plus family book groups and board game times.

Movie nights for kids feature family favorites, including "Moana," "Finding Nemo," "Little Mermaid," and "Luca." Teens will enjoy events just for them, such as ocean-themed escape rooms, art classes, and movie nights.

Programs will be available at multiple branches and locations.

It all begins with a kickoff event at Union Station Saturday, May 28. We’ll have fun activities and giveaways followed by a free showing of the film "Great Barrier Reef."
