USS Kansas City Flag Raising Ceremony to Kick Off Holiday Weekend
Union Station 30 West Pershing Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64108
Naval crew members and Commanding Officer Christopher Brusca of the USS Kansas City (LCS-22) will conduct a flag raising ceremony in front of Union Station. Fittingly, the crew will raise an American Flag flown on the USS Kansas City.
Later that evening, a ceremony will be held in Union Station’s Grand Hall with a thirty minute patriotic musical performance by the Navy Band Great Lakes beginning at 5:45PM. The performance is free and open to the public and will conclude with a special address and the unveiling, of a large, hand crafted, model of the USS Kansas City at 6:30 p.m, which will remain on public display in the Union Station Grand Hall.
Crew members will be in Kansas City for Navy Week, the first since February 2020. Navy Weeks consist of a series of outreach events coordinated by the Navy Office of Community Outreach designed to give Americans an opportunity to learn about the Navy, its people and its importance to national security and prosperity. Since 2005, the Navy Week program has served as the Navy’s flagship outreach effort into areas of the country without a large Navy presence, providing the public a firsthand look at how the Navy deters aggression and preserves freedom of the seas.
The U.S. Navy commissioned Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Kansas City (LCS 22) on June 20, 2020.
