Veterans Day
National WWI Museum and Memorial 2 Memorial Drive, Kansas City, Missouri
The Museum and Memorial will commemorate Veterans Day with special activities, a free public ceremony and free general admission for veterans and active duty military on Friday, Nov. 11 – Sunday, Nov. 13, 2022. In addition, general admission is half price for the public. A schedule of events is available online at theworldwar.org/veteransday and a full announcement will be sent closer to the day.
Also in November are three opportunities for WWI education, led by the 2022 Symposium, Shifting Tides: Citizenship in a World of Conflict. This two day event, just before this November’s election day, is a signature event for the National WWI Museum and Memorial and will focus on the evolution of citizenship during WWI and its legacy through the century. Speakers include noted educators and historians, including Richard Shawn Faulkner and Jonathan Boff. Registration is required and onsite and online rates are available.
The Pershing Lecture Series event, Knocking Russia Out of the War takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Scott Stephenson will discuss the WWI Battle of Riga and landings on the Baltic islands, as the German army and navy forces sought the last push that would bring peace to the Eastern Front. On Monday, Nov. 14, Europe’s New Postwar Era will take place. A public reception at 5 p.m. will be followed by a lecture beginning at 6 p.m. Martin Conway, the Kinder Institute and Oxford (Balliol College) Professor of Contemporary European History, will consider how past attempts to turn war into peace might inform how Europe’s leaders and cooperative structures navigate the fall-out from the 2022 crisis in Ukraine.
