Halloween at Science City

This year, Science City at Union Station is celebrating Halloween all month long with themed decorations, activities, and a NEW Virtual Reality Ride kids love!
Tips:
- Fridays are the busiest day at Science City with many field-trips.
- Field-trips usually leave by 2 pm, so you may want to plan a visit later in the day to avoid groups.
- Earlier in the week is the least crowded and the museum always slows down in the afternoon.
- On Oct. 23, 2022 from 10-11:30 am they are offering a Sensory Sunday when sounds will be turned down and the atmosphere inside Science City will be more mellow and calm for guests.
- On Oct. 29, 2022 be sure to attend Spookfest: Science City at Union Station Kansas City invites you to celebrate our annual Spookfest. Featuring a night of educator-led activities, hands-on demonstrations, and a special laser Spooktacular Music Show. Show up dressed in your best costume to be eligible for our costume contest. Categories include infants up to 4-year-olds, ages 5 to 9, ages 10+ and the best family/group. Open to all guests, $6 for Union Station Members and $8 for General Admission.
Tip: The fun will continue with an updated VR Ride for Christmas during the holiday season!

A Non-Spooky Entrance Past the Planetarium directly into Science City for Little Ones:
If your child is intimidated by the Halloween decorations in the main entrance, simply ask to take the alternate non-spooky route located downstairs right past the ticket booth.

A Brand-New Virtual Reality Ride:
We tried Union Station’s NEW Virtual Reality Ride themed for Halloween and powered by the latest VR technology. This ride is located in the entrance midway in Science City and costs an additional $6 to experience. The ride lasts about three minutes and guests experience a ride through a haunted forest, and a mysterious mansion, and encounter spooky characters along the way. The ride was mildly haunting with animated characters (not scary at all for my girls ages 10-17). The motion was fun but not too intense. Recommended for families with elementary-aged kids and older.

Make a Haunted House in the Maker Space:
In the Maker Space, guests are able to make their own light-up Haunted House (included with admission). Kids learn a bit about circuitry and each child gets to take home their completed project.

Carnival Games:
Kids earn tickets as they participate in Carnival Games and they are able to redeem the tickets for prizes. Best of all, each game is educational too. They'll learn about probabilities when playing games of chance, trajectory with the building-a-catapult game, and more scientific principles - all while having fun.
