Johnson Farms Plants & Pumpkins Family Fun Tips
Every year, our family visits Johnson Farms Pumpkin Patch. On the drive to the patch, my girls chatter excitedly as they anticipate their favorite attractions at the patch: new baby pigs every autumn, beautiful sunflowers, giant pumpkins, the pumpkin cannon, the pumpkin chomping dragon, the GIANT jumping pillows, giant jungle gym, pedal karts... their list of favorites is long. MY favorite things include the outstanding hospitality of their team and the agritourism experience. We pick our own produce ($1/lb), and apples this year ($1.99/lb), in addition to the pumpkins and flowers.
Johnson Farms Pumpkin Patch is friendly, clean, and overflowing with farm fun you won't find at your nearby park. As a working farm, this is a great agricultural field trip with animals and a real farm to explore.
This year, we were excited to explore the GIANT corn crib housed in their large barn where also met the new baby pigs and young chicks.
At Johnson Farms, they have the one of largest real pumpkin patches in the area with small, medium, and large pumpkins to pick off the vine. They also have a garden of U-Pick Vegetables (we picked fresh tomatoes, cabbage, green beans, and peppers). All of my girls love the fall flowers and this year's 15-acre sunflower field is spectacular!
Visitors are welcome to enjoy a lunch at the Barnyard Grill where they serve burgers, hot dogs, nachos, and snacks. The girls love the cider slushes. Seriously, this is excellent food and you'll want to plan to stay for lunch. On our weekend visit, we enjoyed live music with our lunch.
So, what is a visitor to expect at Johnson Farms?
Some of our Favorite Features at Johnson Farms Pumpkin Patch:
The REAL 40-acre Pumpkin Patch! It's great to visit a REAL patch at Johnson Farms. Visitors take a hayride to the patch and pick the perfect pumpkin. The patch is always gorgeous. We found a great variety of pumpkins in many shapes, colors, and sizes.
They provide wheelbarrows to carry your pumpkins and the wheelbarrows can be loaded on the haywagon for your return trip.
Choices Choices! - There are pumpkins in EVERY size. If you don't want to go out into the patch, there are pre-picked pumpkins in the shop.
The U-Pick Apple Orchard! Visitors are invited to pick apples in their NEW orchard! Prices are just $1.99/lb. They do ask that you purchase and keep what you pick, please don't waste. These apples are beautiful and tasty!
The 15-acre Sunflower Field! The sunflowers were especially stunning this year...
The U-Pick Vegetable Patch & Flower Garden! Visitors pick fresh produce right off the vine, or out of the patch. Cabbage, zucchini, tomatoes, peppers - these are just a few of the delicious treats we picked. Veggie picking is included with Pumpkin Patch admission. All the vegetables you harvest are just $1/pound! Please keep what you pick and do not waste.
The beauty. This is a truly beautiful farm... the flowers, the fields, the cleanliness of the property. The fields make lovely fall photo backgrounds! We even enjoyed fresh picked flowers for a beautiful bouquet at home...
The pedal cart track!
Fun Photo Ops!
The Gourd Tunnel. Walking through this overhead garden is always fun!
The Jumping Pillow. Truth be told, if I asked my kids - this would probably be their FAVORITE feature. Johnson Farms is one of the only patches in town with a Jumping Pillow and it is open EVERY day the patch is open. They have TWO jumping pillows. The staff used the two pillows to separate older and younger kids (orange and green) so both age groups could safely have fun. The giant jumping pillow is "better than a trampoline."
The Pumpkin Chomping Dragon (weekends only). This mechanical dragon is great fun to watch. The Pumpkin Chomper is a signature feature you'll ONLY find at Johnson Farms (no other local pumpkin chomping dragons that we know about).... and it is super fun!!!
The Pumpkin Cannon. It is "a blast" (literally) to watch pumpkins fly across the sky and make a big splash in the pond.... and thanks to the staff one of them exploded in the air with debris flying everywhere... including small chunks of pumpkin on us.... the girls had a great laugh! This is one of the few patches in town with this attraction.
The barrel train (weekends only). This is especially fun for young children, and parents can ride with the youngest passengers to help them stay seated. For an additional $2, children may ride Farmer Tom’s Barrel Train. The barrel train is for 2 and up, unless mom or dad can fit in the barrel!
The NEW Obstacle Course. The kids loved this new play area where they climbed through obstacles.
The animals. Pig Races are weekends only and they are free - and super fun to watch. All animals can be enjoyed every day. The girls were very excited to see new baby piglets on our visit and baby chicks. They do not offer the opportunity to feed the animals, but watching them is great (and more sanitary).
The GIANT corn crib! This is a favorite way to play and one of the largest corn cribs we've seen.
The delicious food! In addition to a tasty lunch, we enjoyed live music with lunch during our visit.

The play areas! With tunnels, slides, swings, the Block Bus (an old school bus filled with giant building block toys - so much fun!), hay barn, and more - there were many creative ways for kids to climb, play, explore, and enjoy fresh air and exercise.
