This weekend, our family kicked off fall fun with a visit to Johnson Farms. This is one of our favorite local pumpkin patches. The site is gorgeous. The staff is outstanding. The roasted corn is DELISH (truly I'm convinced that farm fresh corn is one of autumn's must-enjoy pleasures). They offer several fun features you won't find at other pumpkin patches (the jumping pillow, pumpkin launcher, and pumpkin chomping dragon are absolute FAVES with our kids). And, we love picking fresh veggies and a beautiful pumpkin from a REAL working farm! The pumpkins are on the vine at this REAL pumpkin patch. The kids learn a lot, we enjoy a delicious and nutritious dinner, and the fresh air outing makes for a perfect family day!
So, what is a visitor to expect at Johnson Farms?
Our 10 Favorite Features at Johnson Farms Pumpkin Patch:
-
The REAL 40-acre Pumpkin Patch! We have been reading lots of great books about pumpkins from the local library. The girls have been learning all about the pumpkin harvest. After a visit to Johnson Farms, they were thrilled to peruse the fields where sections are labeled: Regular, Medium, and Large Pumpkins. This allows each visitor to find the perfect pumpkin (or pumpkins) to enjoy at home. Guests are taken on a wagon ride out to the fields to pick their own pumpkins. Johnson Farms pumpkins are absolutely beautiful. It was hard to choose just one! Pick pumpkins, gourds and squash, pay only 35 cents per pound, or 25 cents per pound if you pick 100lbs or more.
-
The Vegetable Garden. Visitors are invited to fill a wheel barrow and pick fresh veggies (.79/lb) to enjoy at home. We picked a variety of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, squash, and greens. That evening, we grilled fresh vegetables and enjoyed an outdoor picnic. The perfect ending to a great day on the farm!
-
The staff and the atmosphere! I cannot say enough about the staff at Johnson Farms! It has become an annual tradition for our family to visit the farm, and every year their team is friendly, helpful, and top notch. You can tell that they all love working at the farm and making memories with the kids. The Johnson family has worked hard to create a fun, creative, and pristine attraction.
-
The Jumping Pillow. Truth be told, if I asked my kids - this would probably be their FAVORITE feature. The giant jumping pillow is "better than a trampoline." Our entire family jumped together - it was a blast! Each visitor enjoys their first time on the jumping pillow free, with the option to purchase additional turns. The pillow is open on weekends only.
-
The Pumpkin Chomping Dragon. This mechanical dragon is great fun to watch. The little girls laughed as it grabbed and chomped entire large pumpkins right before their eyes.
-
The Pumpkin Launcher. It was "a blast" (literally) to watch pumpkins fly across the sky and make a big splash in the pond.
-
The barrel train. This is especially fun for young children, and parents can ride with the youngest passengers to help them stay seated. There is an additional charge for train rides.
-
The animals. Pony rides (additional charge), Pig Races (free - and super fun to watch), farmyard birds, and goats are just a few of the animals to enjoy at Johnson Farms. The "Golden Goat Bridge" is a fave!
-
The gnome homes. New this year, they offer an exhibit of gnome homes. It was fun to see miniature gardens and imagine that gnomes and fairies might live there.
-
The play areas! With tunnels, slides, swings, the Sand Bus (an old school bus filled with sand and toys - so much fun!), hay barn, and more - there were many creative ways for kids to climb, play, explore, and enjoy fresh air and exercise.
