When the temperatures drop, Kansas City families don’t have to stay cooped up indoors. The metro is home to some truly fabulous indoor playgrounds that keep kids active, social, and smiling all winter long. From towering slides and obstacle courses to imaginative toddler zones and on-site cafés for parents, these play spaces offer something for every age and energy level.
Here are five of our favorite spots where fun and warmth go hand in hand—no coats required!
Kanga’s Indoor Playcenter, Independence. Your kids will love monkeying around at this animal-themed play area. Popular attractions include a padded obstacle course, rock climbing walls, slides, a giant pirate ship ride and foam ball blasters. Younger children will enjoy the toddler-only area, and parents will appreciate the cafe’s excellent coffee.

Rainbow of the Heartland, Olathe. Have your kids ever seen a play set displayed in a store and wished they could play on it? At Rainbow of the Heartland, they can! On weekdays, families can take advantage of the location’s open play hours. The showroom contains trampolines, basketball hoops and various play sets — including one shaped like a pirate ship! Most of the play equipment is on the large side for toddlers, but older kids will have a blast.
Club Run & Jump, Olathe. An intergalactic adventure awaits you at Club Run & Jump! The soft play area features a large spaceship, slides, tunnels, ball blasters, a climbing wall and more. Pictures of aliens, comets and flying saucers are scattered throughout the play area, contributing to the immersive environment.
Tiny Tots Indoor Play Cafe, Overland Park. If you’re looking for a more relaxed play center for your baby or toddler, this is the place for you. Attractions include a pretend grocery store, a kitchen play set, interactive wall panels, toddler-sized slides and foam climbing blocks. While you’re watching your little ones play, you can indulge in coffee and a snack at the cafe.

Kids Empire, Lenexa. This place truly feels like an empire! One of the most eye-catching elements is the multi-level maze, which provides ample opportunities for climbing, jumping and sliding. Kids can also groove on the dance floor, play on the soccer field and ride child-sized motor scooters. A separate toddler zone ensures that little ones will have just as much fun as the big kids.
