As a Kansas City native with a deep love for exploring the city, I’m always on the hunt for fun and unique things to do—especially on Valentine’s Day! With a passion for uncovering hidden gems and a knack for planning ahead (yes, our Valentine’s dinner reservation has been set since December), I’ve curated this guide to help you make the most of the season of love.
From romantic outings to family-friendly adventures, these handpicked ideas blend local charm with meaningful experiences. Trust me—these tried-and-true recommendations are guaranteed to make your celebration unforgettable. Let’s dive in and celebrate KC style!
For Board Game Lovers
Cardboard Corner Cafe is the perfect Valentine's destination with locations at the Lenexa Public Market and Overland Park, it’s a fantastic hangout where you can dive into an incredible library of board games. Whether I’m planning a date night or a family outing, this place has everything we need to bond over some friendly competition. And of course, don’t forget to treat yourself to one of their famous waffle pops while you’re there! (more specific on my experience)

Take your Valentine on a creative adventure with the Parade of Hearts!
I love the Parade of Hearts—it’s such a fun way to explore Kansas City and enjoy incredible art. Just use their website or app to follow a GPS-guided map to public art installations across the city. You can snap some great photos at each stop and learn the stories behind the designs. It’s a unique and meaningful way to celebrate love, art, and the spirit of KC.

Feeling Snacky?
Popculture in downtown Overland Park or Parkville is a go-to spot for a treat with my sister—we love sampling all the unique flavors! This local gem has an amazing selection of creative popcorn, with options like strawberry cheesecake, everything bagel, and so much more. Whether you’re picking a flavor or creating a custom blend, it’s the perfect way to say, “I love you—and I get you!” Plus, sampling your way through the shop is half the fun!

Create a Spark with a Custom Candle Experience!
I love any excuse to visit charming downtown Lee’s Summit, and Embers Candle Bar is one of my favorite spots to stop by. Here, you can create your own candle by choosing a container, exploring 66 unique fragrances, and blending a scent that sparks memories or reminds you of your special someone. It’s such a thoughtful and romantic way to light up their day—and a fun, creative experience to share!

For the Endorphin Junky
As a lifelong runner, the Sweetheart Run 5k or 10k in Overland Park is my kind of Valentine’s tradition—even if it’s not exactly my husband’s idea of romance! Taking place on Saturday, February 15, 2025, this event invites individuals and couples to lace up, hit the pavement, and celebrate their love for fitness. Whether you’re running solo or with your Valentine, it’s such a fun way to get your heart racing and kick off the season with a healthy dose of endorphins. For me, there’s nothing better than combining a good run with the festive spirit of Valentine’s Day!

Baked Goods Lovers Unite!
I cannot recommend visiting Strawberry Hill Baking Company in Merriam—it’s such a treat to watch their skilled bakers craft traditional handmade povitica while enjoying complimentary samples and coffee. This Eastern European sweet bread is absolutely delicious, and I can never resist taking home a freshly baked loaf or a scrumptious coffee cake to share. It’s a sweet and simple way to spend time together and indulge in some local flavor!

Cook Up Romance This Valentine’s Day
We recently visited The Culinary Center of Kansas City, and it quickly became one of my favorite spots for a fun and delicious outing. This Valentine’s Day, heat things up with one of their special classes! Join the “Valentine's in the Kitchen” couples’ class, indulge your sweet tooth with “Sweets for Your Sweet,” or enjoy a family-friendly cookie decorating session. While you’re there, don’t forget to browse their charming storefront—it’s filled with unique kitchen gadgets, gifts, and gourmet treats. Check out their full schedule for a recipe for the perfect Valentine’s celebration!

A Valentines Day Classic
If you can’t tell already, I have a huge sweet tooth, which is why André’s Confiserie Suisse is always on my list for Valentine’s Day treats. Delight your sweetheart with their hand-crafted Swiss chocolates and truffles—trust me, they’re irresistible. You can customize a box with their favorite flavors or go all out with a heart-shaped chocolate sampler for an extra touch of romance. It’s the perfect (and oh-so-delicious) way to show you care!

Show Your Love with Local KC Finds
I love spreading the KC love, and Made in KC is my favorite spot to find the perfect goodies! They’ve got heart-themed tees, hometown merch, matching shirts, and more. And the fun doesn’t stop there—they also have amazing Chiefs swag and Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce-inspired items. Whether you’re a “Lover” or just here for the touchdowns, Made in KC captures the magic of Kansas City in style!

Say It with Flowers This Valentine’s Day
I would be amiss to not include some fresh blooms in any Valentine’s celebration—after all, flowers are a timeless classic! Brookside is my go-to for the best blossoms. The Fiddly Fig offers fresh, creative arrangements that are always a hit, while Crestwood Flowers, a beloved favorite since 1932, specializes in elegant designs with delivery. Pair your bouquet with a heartfelt note for a gift they’ll never forget!

No matter how you choose to celebrate Valentine’s Day, there’s no shortage of ways to make it special here in Kansas City. From sweet treats and creative outings to unique local finds, these ideas are sure to spark joy and create lasting memories with your loved ones.
