Lately, it isn’t unusual for my kindergartner to complain that she doesn’t get to do anything fun with us since she is in school all day. It’s a good thing she doesn’t know what frequently happens during our afternoons or she’d be even more upset about the “injustice” of it all.
Every afternoon, both of my older children are in school and it’s just my three year old and me. It’s about that time of day that I find myself changing the rules I apply to my three year old. In the past few weeks, I found myself taking her shopping instead of making her nap. I also bought her a bag of gummy worms just because I could.
In addition to shopping trips topped off with a treat, I’ve also found myself bending my rules when it comes to her nap time. She seems to be outgrowing her nap sooner than my older children did. Every once in awhile, I let her watch a movie on the portable DVD player while in her room. I can assure you that is something I NEVER did with my older children.
I’m fully aware that this all might backfire on me which is why I try to stick to our normal routine on most afternoons, but sometimes…
How about you? Have you found yourself bending your rules for your baby when the older kids weren’t looking? Come on, you can tell me. I promise I won’t tell the big kids!
