No matter the season, indoor water fun is a great way for kids to splash, move and play. Whether you’re looking for indoor pools with slides and splash areas, hands-on water play for kids or local swim lessons, Kansas City has plenty of options!
Indoor Pools
Matt Ross Community Center | 8101 Marty St., Overland Park
The Matt Ross Community Center has so much to offer in their indoor aquatic area, especially for kids. Their children’s area is zero-entry and features a waterfall table and a spinning umbrella fountain. The pool is kept at a comfortable 86°, which is the perfect temperature for kids and families to enjoy some playtime in the water. Day passes to the community center are available for $10 per person, and children under 2 are free.
Lenexa Rec Center | 17201 W. 87th St. Pkwy., Lenexa
The Lenexa Rec Center pool is the perfect spot for young kids. Not only do they have a special zero-entry children’s area with fountains and a small slide, they also offer Splash with Me, a special swim time for young children only. For just $3, children 5 and under can enjoy this special time in the splash pad area from 10:00-11:30, Sunday through Friday. Outside of the Splash with Me time, day passes are available for $12 per person.

North Kansas City YMCA | 1999 Iron St., North Kansas City
This YMCA has a wonderful indoor aquatic center. In addition to the lap pool, there is a kid-friendly area with shallow water and an aquatic play set with a slide. If you want to check it out, day passes range from $5 to $15 per person.
Southeast Community Center | 4201 E. 63rd St., Kansas City, Mo.
At Southeast Community Center, you’ll find a lap pool as well as a zero-entry children’s area with a several different types of water fountains and interactive spray features. Open swim is available year-round at the community center and is quite affordable at only $2 per person for ages 2-17, and $5 per person for adults.
J. Thomas Lovell Jr. Community Center | 901 Bluestem, Lee’s Summit
There is plenty for kids to enjoy at the J. Thomas Lovell Jr. Community Center indoor pool. They will have fun exploring the large play area and the different spray features. The zero-depth entry makes it easy for young kids to get in and out of the pool, too. Each day they offer Splash Time, where anyone can come swim, splash and play for $13 per person. The hours vary day to day, so make sure to check the schedule online as you plan your visit.
Blue Surf Bay Waterpark | 305 NE Mock Ave., Blue Springs
I’m always blown away when I see Blue Surf Bay Waterpark, and their indoor area is just as amazing. Older kids will enjoy the rock-climbing wall and the obstacle course, while younger kids will have fun playing in the splash pad. The inclusive splash pad has several unique water features, including an interactive water table. It’s also quite flat, which means young children don’t have to go too far into the water to have fun. Day passes are available for purchase and children under 3 are free.
Powell Community Center | 6200 Martway St., Mission
The children’s area at the Powell Community Center is perfect for toddlers and preschoolers! You’ll find a mushroom fountain to go under as well as a small slide. On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00-11:00, they offer Tot Time Swim — a time specifically for kids ages 0-5 to enjoy the water with their grown-ups.
Blue Valley Recreation Center | 6545 W. 151st St., Overland Park
Blue Valley Recreation Center is another great option for indoor water fun for toddlers and preschoolers. On Friday mornings from 9:30-10:45, they offer a Preschool Splash session for children ages 5 and under. For only $7 for one adult and one kid, you can splash and have fun in the zero-entry pool and lazy river.
Indoor Water Play
If you aren’t interested in visiting an indoor pool, there are two spots in Kansas City that offer fun water play for all ages.
Wonderscope | 433 E. Red Bridge Rd., Kansas City, Mo.
The WaterWorks exhibit at Wonderscope is one of my son’s favorite spots for water play. They have a giant water table with several interactive features, such as water blasters with targets, boat race buoys and a fog mushroom fountain. There are many opportunities for older kids to learn more about water, and it’s also great for young kids to simply explore. Admission to Wonderscope is free for children under 2 and $16 per person ages 2+.
Science City | 30 W. Pershing Rd., Kansas City, Mo.
We can’t visit Science City without stopping by the Every Last Drop exhibit. The exhibit is divided into three zones, and each one offers interactive experiences that demonstrate how water works in our world. The entire area is hands-on and engaging for kids of all ages, but my son’s favorite area is the water table with swirling vortexes, floating balls and moving gates. Admission to Science City is $17 per person; babies under 12 months old are free.
