Boasting more than one million square feet of retail space and 12 million annual visitors, Independence Center is one of the largest regional shopping centers serving the local community since opening in 1974. Independence Center, owned by IGP Business Group, is Kansas City, Mo.’s leading shopping center with more than 100 popular retail stores such as Macy’s, Dillard’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods, H&M, Forever 21, PINK, Pandora, Carhartt, Victoria’s Secret, Old Navy, Noodles & Company and more. Independence Center is also one of the only fully enclosed shopping centers in the Kansas City Metro area.
COMING WINTER 2019-2020:
In ongoing efforts to enhance the visitor experience, Independence Center is introducing ‘District Jungle: Eat & Play’. This family-friendly entertainment experience is currently under construction and scheduled to open this winter.
The jungle themed area will feature eleven different climbing walls, three levels of ropes courses, a Rollglider - an aerial ride combining the thrill of free falling and hang gliding into one, and more.
Padded, carpeted flooring and jungle-like design details will be incorporated throughout.
Newly opened, near the future site of District Jungle, is an arcade area with classic and modern arcade-style games for all ages.
In addition to these enhancements, new strollers designed as colorful, high-end mini vehicles are currently available for visitors, along with a soft play area for toddlers coming in December.
The Center’s ownership group, IGP, also sees great value and is investing in the digital experience for customers. To that end, they have rolled out a new website featuring a virtual shopper program that gives visitors the ability to browse Independence Center tenant merchandise online and put items on hold for in-store pick-up.
“Between our new on-site experiences, refreshed brand and improved digital experience, we’re being intentional about evolving with the times,” said Cheryl Meyer, Independence Center Director of Marketing and Specialty Leasing. “With the holiday season coming up, we’re moving quickly to offer a great experience at Independence Center,” Meyer continued.
Retail tenant additions are another change coming to the Center including: Wonder’s Ice Cream, rolled ice cream and dessert parlor; Sal’s Original Greek, Greek cuisine; Reed’s Boutique, a curated boutique started by a local entrepreneur; Graffiti, an urban-style men’s clothing boutique and 3C Easy Quick Repair, cell phone repair and accessories.
