In November 1998 an 1/8-cent sales tax was passed by Merriam voters to purchase land that is now the Merriam Marketplace. After purchasing the three acres of land in 1999, design began on the 36-stall farmers' market with an additional building housing restrooms and storage. Construction started in November 2000 and was completed in 2001. The covered pavilion is 10,000 square feet and is home of the Merriam Farmers' Market as well as several special events such as Flags 4 Freedom, Turkey Creek Car and Motorcycle Show, and Merriam Drive Live.
This is an access point to Werner Park and Turkey Creek Streamway Trail.
Visitor can also enjoy the second installment of public art, "Planting the Seed", in the lawn of the Merriam Marketplace.
