With the eager welcome of the arrival of spring comes many new tasks that need to get done outside. Mowing the lawn, planting flowers, putting down fresh soil, watering, and the like are just a few to be mentioned. I don't know about you, but breaking out of our 4 walls to enjoy the beauty, smells, and sounds of nature is something I look forward to most during spring.
Last weeked, we purchased some flowers to plant. With a few extras, my husband planted it in a small pot. He then proceeded to place it on our daughter's Little Tikes table that is on our deck. *Side Note* We used to have patio furniture, but ever since a random windstorm a few weeks ago knocked over our patio table, shattered the glass table top, and snapped the umbrealla in half, it looks like Little Tikes will have to suffice. *End Side Note*
The flowers in the flower pot has become a new responsibility for Ava to learn. We have to water the flowers each day, so she goes out on the porch (with supervision), gets the watering can, and knocks on the door with the watering can in her hand saying something like, "Watre, flowers, please!" We get water for her, and help her pout the water on the flowers.
And yes, it's really very precious to watch. What's so precious? Our daughter is getting bigger and growing up. She is eager for a responsibility. She cares for something as small as a flower (and I think that's the sweetest part).
How do you help your kids to learn responsibility at a young age (aside from cleaning up your toys)? I'd love to hear your ideas!
