My sweet Ally turns 6 today. Typically, six isn't one of those ages for a "big time" celebration. And I doubt anyone but me will be celebrating this 6th birthday in an extra-special way.
You see, ever since she was teeny-tiny, Ally, when talking about age, would say to me, "1,2,3,4,5, that's all for me. I'll only ever get to be 5." I would correct her and tell her that she would be six, then seven, eight, nine and so on and eventually she would be a grown-up, but she would insist, "No mommy, I'm only going to be five." And it freaked me out. In a big way. Not that I think my child can predict the future, but she said it EVERY time and was very matter of fact about it.
But we made it!! Here we are celebrating her 6th birthday and I feel as if an enormous weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. To Ally, may you enjoy your special day. You are such a treasure to me and I look forward to watching you turn seven, eight, nine, ten and someday, into a wonderful adult.
