This summer, Tori and I have been hosting a mother/daughter book club with several of her friends from school and their moms. We chose the book "Mr. Popper's Penguins" to read since the movie was coming out this summer. We've met three times and have our last meeting next week before all going to see the movie together. It's been a lot of fun and Tori and I have enjoyed quality time together reading the book and preparing for our weekly meetings.
Before each meeting, we all read the same 5 chapters of the book. During our time together we discuss what we've read and then have an activity or project to work on. We've made travel brochures, played games and constructed alliteration accordians. Next week we'll culminate our time by making a penguin craft and writing our favorite part of the book on the penguin. After seeing the movie, we're going to discuss the similarities and differences between the book and the movie (and from what I can tell they are not very similar).
It's been a fun way to get together with friends and to keep Tori reading and learning during the summer(and she doesn't complain because she's having so much fun!).
