I noticed this week that my mailbox is filling up again with graduation announcements and wedding invitations. Of course, this means that we need to send cards or gifts to each of these people. Since we are on a budget, we want to make sure that we remember our friends and family, but not spend too much in the process. Here are a few ideas if you are in the same boat as we are:
Bathroom Tote Set. Pick up a tote that will work to carry all of your bathroom products to and from the dorm room each morning (and night). Then, fill it with toothpaste, toothbrush, and shampoo. Toss in a washcloth and towel set for a unique gift perfect for that High School graduate.
Laundry Basket Gift. Work your money saving magic and pick up a bottle of detergent and package of softener sheets. Then, pick up an inexpensive laundry tote or basket to put together a one of a kind basket. This is a great idea for the graduate.
Frames. No matter the occasion, there will be photos. If this is for a graduation, there's also the diploma. That means that frames will be needed to display those items. I check out Kohl's to pick up my frames as I always have 15% off coupons and they mark frames down as much as 60% off all of the time. I just stock up and keep these on hand so I always have a gift at a moment notice.
Coupon books. If the person you are giving your gift to lives close by, you could create a coupon booklet for them. You could add coupons such as "free laundry service" for the college student or even "free romantic dinner" for the newlywed couple. You could even provie a "paint your bedroom" coupon -- who wouldn't love someone to help do work around the house? The ideas are endless.
Household Items. When you shop, check out the clearance section for towels, dishcloths, rugs, etc. I pick these up at a fraction of the cost and keep them in my gift closet. When the need arises, I have the perfect gift for someone and I didn't spend a lot for it. You can use these items for graduates or for those weddings since you can find items to fit any type of event.
Picnic Set. I've picked up an basket, plates (check out the dollar bins at your stores) an inexpensive table cloth and put together a picnic set. Toss in a gift card to a local grocery store and you've got a great gift idea for that newlywed couple.
These are some of my favorite ideas. What have you done to let someone know you care, without spending too much money?
