Garage sale season is here! I love this time of year because I love to pick up items for re-purposing or give new life to something that seems otherwise unusable. I am always on the hunt for great (sturdy) chairs that are in good-condition but might need a coat of paint. Or a great antique bench that just needs the seat recovered in new fabric. I look for candlesticks that need shining or can be sprayed in silver paint. I love picking up vintage linens for sewing projects, or even vintage fabric or patterns. It is a treasuer hunt and you can bet every Saturday morning I have to hit at least a few sales.
One of my favorite trash to treasure projects is my kitchen chandelier. While out with my neighbor friend, she spotted an outdated, brass chandelier sitting sadly on a neighbor’s curb. She said, “grab it!” And I was surprise...grab that? Really? “Why?” She said I was going to paint it white and get some cute shades. So, I did! And she was so right! My nearly free kitchen chandelier (of course we also had to sew a cord cover!) and voila...one of my favorite features in my house! And when people ask about it, no one can believe it was a neighbor’s trash.
Have you salvaged anything great from a sale? What’s your favorite garage sale find?
