I think manners are important. I try to teach my girls to use manners and I try to use them myself (I'm not always successful with either, but I try). So I was beyond thrilled when Tori came home from her first day of 4th grade and told me, "Mrs. O'Connor makes us stand when the principal comes in the room." Yes! I am vindicated! For years (ever since they could stand) I have had the girls stand when an adult enters the room (not family members or things along those lines, but when we are at the doctor's office and the doctor comes in the room, we all stand to greet him or her). It's nice to have this reinforced at school and I'm thrilled Tori's had such a great start to the year.
