I shared with you our journey to Financial Freedom Journey I and II, I last shared about my blog being born…….
When I first started out, I figured I'd just share some deals that I found in and around Kansas city. Making a cent doing so was the LAST thing from my mind. However, I began to make a little money sharing my deals. It wasn’t much money, but it was at least a little to help us on our road to financial independence. I quickly realized that I could help families from coast to coast, so I changed the site to Penny Pinchin’ Mom….and never looked back.
Of course, we continued to work hard saving on groceries, curbing spending, and selling items at garage sales. However, the most important thing we did during this entire process was continue to give. We gave to charities and to our church. We never missed an opportunity to help others. In doing so, God rewarded us for our efforts.
He guided us to change our site to help families across the country. He helped us become stewards of HIS money. His guidance led us to become debt free on February 3, 2010 – 27 months after we first began our journey. What an incredible day that was!!! I will say that getting behind the wheel of a vehicle that you own free and clear is an amazing feeling!
We have continued to save to help build our emergency fund and the sense that “we will be OK” is like none other. Of course, as luck would have it, the moment we hit our goal, our pickup truck broke down. Luckily, we had the funds to pay for the repairs without batting an eye. Three years ago, we would have been worried, wondering HOW we would pay for it to be fixed. Writing that very LARGE check didn’t hurt at all. It didn’t affect us negatively – because we were prepared.
We now are heading towards saving for retirement and college and will soon begin to pay down the mortgage on our home. These things would never have been possible without our faith in God and perseverance to follow through to achieve our goals. I learned more of about whom I was and what God wanted me to do.
Sure, he wanted me to be a wife and a mother, but he wanted more of me. I found my calling. I am here to help families learn how to be better stewards of God’s money. I feel so blessed to know that I am doing what I was meant to do. I am sharing my gifts and my knowledge with other families. My goal is to help others achieve what we have and to truly life their life like no one else!
