It’s that time of year again when I’m checking my kids’ closets and taking note of what clothes they need for the cooler weather. My six year old would be content to continue to wear flip flops and summer skirts, but that’s not going to happen!
After spending time in their closets, I realized that my kids aren’t prepared for cooler weather. Fortunately, this is intentional and I’ve got some tricks up my sleeves.
My first trick explains why their closets aren’t bursting with fall and winter clothes. The first tip I have for you is to forget about buying ahead. Now, I realize some of you probably swear by this and if it works, that’s great. However, if you’re like me, you’ve wasted money by purchasing clothes at the end of the season in the hopes that your kiddos will wear them a year later. The thing is, my kids have never grown at a very predictable rate. Also, their idea of what is comfortable can change.
Sure, I may have only paid two dollars for the pants that they couldn’t wear, but add that amount to a dozen other two -dollar items I’ve bought and it adds up! I’m simply better off waiting until a season change to buy a few items that they’ll wear and enjoy.
The second tip I have up my sleeve (hee, hee), is to buy plain long-sleeve shirts. I have my kids wear these under their favorite tees from the summer. This adds warmth in the winter and makes the most of their current wardrobes.
