My husband and I packed up our car and headed west this past weekend to visit our alma mater, Kansas State University (go Wildcats!!). We have made a yearly tradition with another couple, whose parents actually live in Manhattan. We all head down together, the guys go to the game, and us gals stay back with the kids while watching the game on TV.
Now, I wouldn't at all say that Manhattan, KS is a "vacation" by any means. When I think of vacation, a warm sandy beach runs through my mind. Nonetheless, we LOVE going. We have so many fond memories of our time at college.
KSU is where both my husband and I came to truly know the Lord and have a relationship with Him. Some of our closest friendships were made at KSU. Football games, sorority life, coffee dates, sitting up on Manhattan letters, doing the Wabash at the games, and so many more memories flooded that time of life.
Walking the campus now as a couple 5 years into marriage, and now with our daughter who is 16 months old, is kind of surreal. K-State has such a special place in our hearts, because it is where my husband and I met and fell in love. To bring our daugther to a place like Manhattan is very meaningful for the both of us, because so much took place in our lives there that was life changing. And we want her to grow up knowing about this special place....and secretly, we want her to join us in cheering for the Wildcats and calling KSU her alma mater as well!
What are some places that are special to you and/or your spouse and why? What are special things that you plan to share or have shared with your children?
