Have you seen the blood donor ads that have run the past few months in KC Parent? If your answer is no, then, what’s wrong with you? Just kidding! Click here to see the digital edition of the January issue and check out pages 19 and 25. I just love these ads! It puts a real face on both blood donors and recipients.
Do you donate blood? I have three times in my life. Two times were directed donations; once for when my brother was having surgery and then last year before my Dad had his mitral valve repair surgery. The third time was when I taught. The school was hosting a blood drive so I donated at school. Each time I’ve almost passed out. They have to lower the bed I’m on, put my feet up and get me a cool wash cloth. I get all clammy and have to really concentrate so that I don’t pass out. I really want to be able to donate blood, I don’t know why I become such a wimp when I go to do it. My brother has had so many operations and has relied on the kindness of strangers who have donated their blood so that he was able to pull through and recover fully.
There’s been a lot of chatter on Facebook and Twitter on doing good deeds; paying it forward. This is such an easy and simple way to pay it forward. Just about an hour or so out of your day every few months can make such a big difference. If you are braver than me and can donate, consider taking the time and paying it forward by donating.
