Before my first child was born, I bought a pale yellow Creative Memories scrapbook to store her memories. Before she was two months old, I began working faithfully on her book.
Less than eighteen months later, my son was born. We knew he was going to be a boy so I had bought a pale blue Creative Memories scrapbook for him. I believe he was nearly a year old before I started his scrapbook.
Twenty one months after my son was born, I had my youngest daughter and I have yet to buy a scrapbook for her. (For the record, it will be pink if I do eventually buy one.)
So, now I have three scrapbooks for my children. I have my oldest's first two years recorded. I have my son's first year recorded and obviously I have nothing recorded for my youngest daughter. In fact, until today I hadn't done much to record memories since my youngest was born nearly eighteen months ago.
A few days ago while reading a new (to me) favorite blog, I happened across a post where she recorded how she stored special papers and photos for her children. It was so simple.
That is why this afternoon, I found myself in my basement near my scrapbooking table that is covered in mounds of paper. I grabbed an old three-ring binder and some page protectors. Then, I began stuffing. Ten minutes later, I had an organized binder full of my oldest daughter's memories. I included art work, pictures, award certificates from swim lessons, special crafts from church and Mother's Day Out, and anything else I had tossed on top of the fridge or on my table in the basement meaning I deemed it worthy of saving. Eventually I'll use some cute scrapbooking paper to add a cute cover and binding to the see-through binder. I'll label it with the dates and it'll be good to go.
As for photos, I think I'm going to give digital scrapbooks a try. I've made them for the grandparents and liked the way they look. Though I enjoyed scrapbooking, I do believe those days just might be behind me, at least in the traditional paper and photo cropping sort of way.
How about you? Do you try to keep up with some sort of scrapbook for your family?
