I love to read. You can usually find me reading a book on my Kindle while simultaneously reading a hard copy of a different book. When a movie comes out based on a book I’ve read, I’m usually curious and then usually disappointed. The old adage holds true for me: the book is better than the movie. I loved reading The Help but haven’t seen the movie because I am afraid it will lessen my love for the novel. Last summer, Tori and I read Mr. Popper’s Penguins and then went to see the movie, which was nothing like the book (to our disappointment). I thought the casting was all wrong in One for the Money and didn’t see it for fear again that it would spoil my enjoyment of the series.
I read The Hunger Games a couple of years ago and fell in love with the series. So I am surprised by the fact that I am looking forward to the movie. In fact, I’m really excited to see it. I even reread the book over spring break to refresh my memory and I’m glad I did. There were a few things I had forgotten so I was happy I chose to read it again. I also think some of the casting is spot-on. I love Lenny Kravitz as Cinna and at first was a bit unsure of Woody Harrelson as Haymitch, but I think ultimately he’s a great fit. The jury is still out on Peeta. I’m not convinced the actor is the best Peeta out there, but that is based solely on photos, I’ll have to make up my mind after seeing the film. Although a midnight showing would be fun, I don’t think I’m young enough to try that, so I’ll be out with the crowds Friday night seeing the movie (no worries, tickets already purchased).
Did you read the book? See the movie? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
