My husband's car overheated a couple of days ago due to a leak in some hose. It had to be in the shop for a day and that meant that he had to take my car to work, which meant that I was trapped at home with the kids with no car! The horror! I had been planning a few activities for the day that were now down the drain.
But then I had an idea. We should take the bus! And so we did. We hopped on the city bus toward Crown Center just two blocks from our house in Brookside after doing some research on the very easy to use website...you can enter your address and your destination and they give you the bus route/schedule. And boy did we have a blast! The kids loved the adventure of riding the bus and it could not have been easier. Crown Center of course was fun, too (Rainforest exhibit, Fritz's, and yes...a stop in the candy store). But I have to say that my kids probably liked the bus ride more than anything!
It is fun when something happens that makes you think the day is going to be a disaster and it ends up creating something even more fun than what you had planned.
Oh, and don't be afraid to take the bus! It's easy, safe, clean, and cheap (Adults are $1.50, kids under 12 are $.75, and kids under 5 are free)! We will be taking the bus again this summer for sure! Living in Brookside it couldn't be more simple...there are buses that take you right past the Library, the Plaza, and Crown Center.
