Spring and summer are right around the corner, and most children’s clothing is starting to look a little short. Soon it won’t matter that those pants have turned into long capris because it will be warm enough for shorts and t-shirts! Are your children stocked for the season yet?
If they aren’t, have not fear! Consignment sales and garage sales will be popping up all around you, and this is a great way to save big on items your kids will need. What can you do to be ready?
Take an inventory now of what your child has for the seasons coming up. Pull out the bin of hand-me-downs and rummage through to figure out what is usable, and I would recommend going a step further and actually writing it down. Lay the clothes out on top of each other to compare the size. The old saying “One size fits all” is hardly ever true. You might be surprised just how short a pair of 4T shorts are in one particular brand than another, and that will be helpful when you’re taking your inventory.
Once you’ve figured out what you have, you can write out what you actually need to purchase. This helps to avoid impulse and “over” buying while still purchasing the needed items for the upcoming seasons.
Look around and figure out when and where consignment sales and garage sales will be offered. With large consignment sales, it really is best to keep the kids at home if at all possible. Minimize your distractions, stay focused on what you need, and get out as quickly as you can. Plus, lines can often times be excruciatingly long, causing bored children to lose it pretty quickly.
Happy shopping!
