Another idea, but this one doesn't involve food. In fact, the idea is based on a poster my principal had hanging in her office back from my teaching days. It read, "Some days are meant for playing." I couldn't agree more. Life goes by so quickly, we need to take time out to just play and have fun!
So I've adopted that philosophy and for one school day each year, I keep the girls home from school and we spend the day playing. Each girl has her own day and I tailor the day's activities according to what my girls like. For example, this year Tori and I are going to go to Crown Center. She received a gift certificate for Christmas and wants to spend it. We are also going to go ice skating and then enjoy lunch on the Plaza. Ally LOVES Zonkers, so she and I will spend the day riding the roller coaster over and over and over.
Here's the catch-the girls have no idea when it will be. I wake them up and they find out at that point they are staying home and having their "fun day". It's a fun tradition, one that Tori looks forward to each year. Since Ally is in Kindergarten this year, she'll get her first fun day this year and I'm hoping she'll enjoy it as much as Tori.
