So is it a bad thing if my four-year-old (technically four-and-a-half) knows all the words to Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” and “Anyway You Want It” by Journey? My name is Margaret and my family and I are Rock Bandaholics. It started innocently enough when I received the game for Christmas from Santa. I have always loved video games (I still hold the high score for my family on Frogger, thank you very much!) and was so excited get Rock Band. I received a Wii a year earlier and sadly hadn’t put it to much use, but with the arrival of Rock Band, that all changed.
At first we had very specific rules. The game and its instruments were for mom and dad only. The girls could watch, but had to stay out of the way. Well, the girls wore us down with their asking to play and we finally agreed to let them sing along. Unbeknownst to us, our youngest had been hiding her inner rock diva! Now, let it be know, I am neurotic and I don’t condone all day video game playing, but a half hour a day I am okay with. For that half hour, Ty can be found on guitar or bass, Tori and I on drums and Ally on lead vocals. No matter what kind of day we are having, it is nice to be able to escape and spend some time together just having fun.
Oh yes, we even have a band name, Hard, Yes Fail. It comes from the fact that when we play with the girls we put the game on “no fail” mode and we choose the “easy” level for them. One day Ally had decided that she had gotten good enough at the game that for her she wanted us to choose “hard, yes fail” and with that, a band name was born.
Any other great Wii games out there that you have found for you and your family to play? I’d love to hear about the other games that we can play as a family. And be on the lookout for Hard, Yes Fail performing at a local venue near you soon!
