KC ZOO CELEBRATES ZOOTENNIAL THIS SUNDAY!
100th Anniversary of the Zoo will be marked with special lineup of activities.
Join us on Sunday, December 13, 2009 as we celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the Zoo with
complimentary admission from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., a nod to the Zoo's original pricing!
From 12 to 2 p.m. in the Lobby visitors can enjoy a birthday cupcake treat, experience several of the
Zoo’s “Animal Ambassadors” up close with encounters from the Education Department, and watch
engaging presentations made by Zoo Historian Ken Lee.
Take a stroll down memory lane along the Zoo’s History Wall with photos and a timeline covering the
last 100 years, and commemorate the Kansas City Zootennial by purchasing a copy of Kansas City Zoo
Tales - a book filled with stories and photos from the first 100 years of the Zoo (available in the Gift
Shop).
And, on Saturday and Sunday, December 12 and 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the holiday celebration
continues at the Holiday in Tropics. Zoo guests will be greeted with a traditional Lei welcome as they
meet Santa and his friends. With a Harvesters donation, Santa’s visitors will receive a free photo from
the Kansas City Zoo Photo Club. (Photos are $5 each without donation.) And, children can create a
penguin penny bank to support the Zoo’s “Pennies for Penguins” campaign, a fundraising effort to
bring penguins to the Zoo.
