This month's recipe and story pairing can be a full lunch or dinner date!

Summer has begun, and it’s time to Meet June from the Calendar Kids Series by April Martin! Children will relate to June as she plans fun summer activities like going to camp, swimming, finding a Father’s Day gift and a going on a family beach trip!
June and her friends represent diverse families who celebrate the summer in various ways. This book has it all, including fun facts about the month; how to re-ignite hope and problem-solve when your greatest ideas are dashed; interactive discussion questions for grown-ups and children; and a fabulous “Dad’s Famous Hamburgers” recipe to try and enjoy! Be sure to have children wash their hands before and after handling the meat!
For an extra activity, provide paper and crayons to create homemade Father’s Day cards. Kids could also create cards to give to another favorite relative or role model.

Dad’s Famous Hamburgers
Ingredients:
- 1 lb. hamburger
- 1 c. shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 c. salsa (I used finely chopped tomatoes, garlic, onions, salt and pepper)
- 1/4 c. bread crumbs (optional)
- 1 package hamburger buns (or slider buns/Hawaiian rolls for mini burgers)
- Directions:
Wash your hands and place the ground beef in a large bowl.
Add the cheese and salsa. Use your hands to mix ingredients together.
After mixing, children may begin to form their own patties. A regular-sized patty should be a large handful; a slider will be a small handful.
Roll meat into a ball and then flatten!
Place patties on a cookie sheet lined with foil. A grown-up can either grill the patties or place them underneath the oven broiler on high. Check the burgers every 5 minutes and flip them until throughly cooked. Drain the grease as you flip the burgers and before you serve!

Additional toppings:
Sliced cheese, lettuce, bacon, pickles, onion, avocado, mayo, ketchup, mustard, any other favorite sauces
