Alligators
The Zoo always makes for a great summer outing and this summer make plans to visit the
brand-new habitat, Alligator Alley, located near the Discovery Barn and Billy Goats Gruff Yard. It is the home to five female alligators: Gertrude, Lucy, Eudroa, Agnes and Rita. The outside habitat is complete and construction will continue on the building with plans to be done later this summer. Watch also for animal chats to be added by Zoo care specialists so that everyone can learn more about them. KansasCityZoo.org
Fishing Poles
Did you know? In partnership with the Missouri Department of Conservation, select Mid-Continent Public Library branches offer fishing poles and tackle boxes for customers to check out during the spring and summer. Fishing equipment varies by location and must be returned within seven days. Participating MCPL branches include Antioch, Blue Springs South, Smithville and Withers. How fun is that? Fishing is a great way to spend a summer day! MyMCPL.org
Dutch Bros
You know I love a good coffee spot! My younger fell in love with Dutch Bros a few months back and recently took me to try it. Here’s the thing, I’m not a cold coffee drinker, and I have pretty specific things I like in my coffee. Dutch Bros has a very large menu of drinks (coffee and otherwise) but they also are very accommodating if you want to order something that’s not on the menu. When I described what I wanted, they were able to make something just to my liking. They are drive up or walk up only, with a few locations and more on the way. DutchBros.com
The Tattooist of Auschwitz
One summer a few years ago, I visited the Pearl Harbor Memorial, and years back when traveling Europe, I toured the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site. I feel fortunate to have had those experiences to help me learn about WWII. In addition, I’ve done a lot of reading on the subject. I recently read The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris and I recommend it as a good way to learn more from the perspective of the man who gave the prisoners at Auschwitz their number tattoos. A powerful story. https://www.amazon.com/Tattooist-Auschwitz-Novel-Heather-Morris/dp/0062797158
Summer Watch
I like watches and I like to wear different watches to match the outfit, season or occasion. For my birthday, my husband got me a watch because “it had been a while since I got you one.” He knows me well! I was pleasantly surprised by the one he picked out, it’s the perfect summer fun watch, with a great color and a little sparkle! And, here’s a tip: when you need a new battery for your watch or need to have it sized, check out KC Watch (KCWatch.com). Great prices and great customer service. Fossil.com
