It's Spring Kansas City! Flowers are blooming (my sympathy to allergy sufferers), birds are chirping, and grass is green! We have been enjoying great parks and family fun in the great outdoors again... so why do I love Spring in Kansas City?
- Kansas City offers so many terrific parks, it's fun to explore. We love to visit the Best Parks in Kansas City... Penguin Park with giant animals, Antioch Park with the Wild West Village, Harris Park with a castle playground, Frontier Park with a pirate ship and more! My girls are excited about the opening of Brumble's Forest, a new playground in Grandview, soon to join the ranks fo the Best Parks around on April 21!
- It's time for Kite Flying! We like to visit local parks for Kite Flying in Kansas City, and we make it an annual tradition to attend Flights of Fancy the biggest Kite Festival in the Midwest.
- Flowers are blooming! Powell Gardens, Loose Park's Rose Garden, Kauffman Gardens, and the Overland Park Arboretum are just a few of our favorite places to enjoy the blooms. Discover Kansas City's local nature centers and gardens using our interactive Going Places Guide to Kansas City.
- The Kansas City Zoo is better than ever! We're big fans of the African Sky Safari (a ski-lift styled ride above Africa offering great views of the animals), and we love to watch Nikita, the resident Polar Bear, swim. This year we're thrilled at the announcement of a NEW Tiger Exhibit! The Zoo is getting better and better and FOTZ Memberships make it a great repeated outing for the family.
- Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead opens for the season! Every time we ask KC Parent readers for their favorite outdoor attractions, Deanna Rose always gets a mention! The petting zoo and farm offers fantastic educational attractions for the family. Pony rides, wagon rides, miniature tractors, an old-fashioned school, mining camp, gardens, and farm animals are just part of the fun.
- It's the season of homegrown goodness! Whether that means a tour of a local farm where kids can learn where food comes from (Tip: Read 4 KC Farm Tours), or a visit one of the 30+ local Farmers' Markets in Kansas City or lunch at a local restaurant that specializes in serving farm-fresh local food (Tip: Read Eating Homegrown at KC's Restaurants), Spring is the beginning of fresh fruits and veggies for the whole family to enjoy.
- It's not quite Beach Season at the local lakes, but it is time for some great Fishing! There are several local lakes for Fishing in Missouri and Kansas and that is one of our favorite family outings.
- April is a GREAT time to live in Kansas City! With the Grand Opening of Sea Life, Easter Egg Hunts, live shows, and more... our Top Picks for April in Kansas City are jam packed with fun!
So, what do YOU love most about Spring in KC?
