During the Chiefs' run to the Super Bowl, three different friends raved about the adorable Chiefs-inspired donuts at Mr. D's Donut Shop. I couldn’t resist ordering a dozen for our Super Bowl party, and they were a huge hit! That got me thinking—Kansas City is home to so many incredible donut spots, each offering something unique.

Donut King

Donut King has been serving up amazing donuts since 1969, and with over 48 varieties, there’s something for everyone. My husband swears by their apple fritter—it’s huge, packed with cinnamon flavor, and has the perfect crispy edges. 

Must-try: French crullers and cronuts

This place doesn’t necessarily have the tastiest donuts in KC, but it’s all about the experience for the kids! They love customizing their own mini donuts with toppings like Fruity Pebbles and marshmallow drizzle.

Fluffy Fresh Donuts

I grew up going to this donut shop with my grandpa! Fluffy Fresh is exactly what the name promises—light, airy, and made fresh daily. 

Must-try: Glazed Donut.

Hana's Donuts

My Minnesota friends introduced me to this place and now when I have to run to the airport, I plan a stop at Hana’s nearly everytime! My husband can never leave without grabbing one of their apple fritters (yes, he has a thing for apple fritters!). 

Must-try: Blueberry Cake Donut.

Jack's Donuts

Jack’s Donuts is a classic in our rotation, especially when we’re craving something light and fluffy. The maple iced long john is my guilty pleasure—so good with a hot coffee! 

Must-try: Maple Iced Long John.

Johnny's Donuts

This little cash-only gem has been serving classic, no-frills donuts since 1961. My dad would stop in here growing up. Their cinnamon twists are amazing—crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfectly spiced. 

Must-try: Melt-In-Your-Mouth Glazed

KC Fresh Donuts

My staff member’s kids LOVE their strawberry frosted donut—it’s bright pink, sweet, and just fun to eat! They also have great cronuts and kolaches if you’re looking for something different.

LaMar's Donuts and Coffee

LaMar’s is one of the OGs of Kansas City donuts, and technically the closet donut shop to my house! It’s a staple and always dependable! 

Must-try: Bavarian Cream Filled Long John or Apple Spice.

Mochinut Overland Park & Mochinut Zona Rosa

Mochinut is such a fun change from traditional donuts! The chewy texture is totally different but so good. 

Must-try: Matcha Mochi Donut.

Mr. D's Donut Shop

📍 OP Farmer's Market

A Shawnee staple since 1975, Mr. D’s is known for chocolate twists and filled long johns, but their cherry Danish is my go-to—it’s so buttery and packed with cherry filling. 

Must-try: Chiefs-Inspired Donuts

Ray's Donuts

Ray’s is one of those spots that does classic donuts really well. They do simple and they do wow.

Must-try: Chocolate Iced Cake Donut.

Slow Rise

📍 Pop-Ups. Locations vary. This is a pop-up and has almost a cult following in KC! I love Slow Rise for their sourdough donuts—they’re slightly tangy and have such a great texture. 

Must-try: Lemon Sugar Sourdough Donut.
