- July 4: Spirit of Kansas Blues Festival. Held at Reynolds Lodge, Lake Shawnee, in Topeka. Opening ceremonies begin at approximately 11:00 a.m., and music continues until dark. The festival ends with a spectacular fireworks show lighting up the sky, sponsored by Capitol Federal Savings and Loan.

First Saturdays at Shoal Creek Living History Museum (July 6 and August 3) are free fun for the entire family! - July 19: Save a Life: Centennial Blood Drive Donation. For the first time in World War I, blood was stored for future transfusions. - July 21: The Great Car Show. Visit the Truman Library
Visit the Truman Presidential Library in July before it closes for renovation.
- July 4: FREE Fun on the 4th - Celebrate America’s 243rd Independence Day. Come together and make memories with free admission to the Library and entertaining activities for all ages. The whole family will enjoy delicious, festive cookies before or after taking in the museum (while supplies last). Kids will be especially excited to spend time at Truman coloring tables stocked with patriotic coloring sheets and supplies. At 2 p.m. everyone can enjoy a screening of “Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero,” the charming and true story of a canine mascot from World War I.Come celebrate the Fourth of July and enjoy the Truman Library before it closes for a massive renovation project on July 22. Admission to the museum and participation in all Fourth of July activities will be free and open to the public.
- FREE Admission July 20-22: July 22 is the last day to visit the Truman Library before it closes for a year-long renovation, so admission is FREE in honor of this final weekend July 20-22. Coinciding with the 75th anniversary of Truman’s nomination to Vice President on July 21, celebrate the rise of our hometown president by visiting the museum one last time in its current iteration before it closes for a massive transformation.
- Visit BEFORE July 22: The Truman Library is launching a massive renovation of the museum and its exhibitions, the first major renovation in more than 20 years and the largest since the museum opened its doors in 1957. The museum’s last day open to the public is Monday, July 22, 2019, before the museum closes for approximately one year.
