This is…the National Bible Bee.
This week seven Kansas Citians will be competing in the Junior and Senior divisions of the National Bible Bee. Since the Bible Bee started four years ago, Kansas City has had Semi-Finalist, Finalists, and Winners at the Bible Bee every year! Cheer for the Kansas City teens this week. Starting Friday morning on November 16, you can go to http://www.biblebee.org/_hostcp/nationalcompetitors_nat.php?y=2012 and see if our local teens qualified for the Semi-Final Challenge rounds. Final Challenge round competitors will be announced the morning of Saturday, November 17. The top three winners of each division will be announced later that evening. You can even watch the Semi-Finals and Final Challenge rounds via webcast starting November 16, for a one-time fee of $10. Below is the press release sent out from National Bible Bee headquarters.
“The 2012 National Bible Bee Competition will take place in Sevierville, Tennessee, at the Sevierville Events Center and Wilderness at the Smokies Resort, November 14-18. Over the four days, children among the top 300 National Qualifiers will demonstrate their diligence in Scripture knowledge and memorization through oral and written rounds. The final winners will be awarded more than $260,000 and every contestant will be encouraged and recognized for their Biblical excellence.
“The National Competition is surrounded by family-friendly events, inspiring speakers and time to enjoy the waterpark and other activities at the Wilderness Resort. The Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Mark McMahan, emphasizes that everyone is welcome to attend, whether they have been previously involved in the Bible Bee or not. “This event is designed to be family-friendly, engaging and encouraging for everyone,” says McMahan. “Those who attended last year’s Nationals were deeply impacted by the celebration of God’s Word and the sense of community among the families, and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We anticipate the same and more for this year’s event.’
“The Nationals Qualifiers won spots at the Bible Bee Nationals through their performance at Local Contests which were held on August 25th across the country. Over the summer the youth from ages 7 to 18 years memorized up to 25 Bible passages and completed a Bible study on 2 Timothy with their families using the unique “Sword Study” curriculum. Contestants who are headed to the National Competition must also study 1 Timothy and memorize from 300-600 additional Bible verses. Despite the high standards, this competition isn’t just about prizes and verses…
“…Bible Bee’s vision [is] to equip parents to lead their own children into a deeper relationship with Jesus through in-depth Bible study, Scripture memorization and prayer. This vision impacts every level of the Bee, from small local support groups to the National Competition.
“Economically-priced, family-friendly activities at the National Competition include the Bible Bee Soda Shoppe, a family play area, a square dance on Friday evening, and the exciting Semi-Final and Final Challenge Rounds, in which contestants demonstrate word-perfect Scripture memorization as they compete for the top prizes…
