Last winter as we were hit with a deluge of snow, while others lamented the snow and longed for the pool.... I relished it! I love winter. I love snow. The ONLY thing I dislike is when it results in dangerous road conditions (and I'm very fortunate to be able to stay home then). We went swimming at indoor play places, made crafts, watched movies, and visited many of our favorite KC attractions throughout the winter.
Now, it's hot. It's VERY hot. It's SO hot that we have a variety of fun and exciting things to enjoy, and they aren't as exciting or appealing because of the weather. This week, I'm taking my girls to Starlight to see "Cinderella." I love Starlight. I love Rodgers & Hammerstein. My girls are over the moon about Cinderella. Part of me is VERY excited, the other part of me is praying that the weather forecast is wrong! It's amazing what 100 degree temps can do to put a damper on otherwise outstanding entertainment.
Then, you have the added factor... I work for a magazine and we work ahead. I spent the last week working on features for autumn and winter, rounding up the great Christmas in KC attractions for 2011! When you already love cooler weather (autumn is my favorite, winter is next) and it's this hot, writing about apple cider and sleigh rides doesn't help motivate one to change their mind about summer.
Despite our best efforts to stay cool including numerous outings to KC's Top Spots to Cool Off as well as our favorite local indoor play places, and movies, library outings, museums, and more... simply going from the car to the inside is unpleasantly hot. Next winter, when there is snow and when even I am ready for a break from the snow, I'll remember this and just how much better snow is over heat and I won't complain. :)
Do you miss the snow?
