Heather Loewenstein dreams up the puppets and shows StoneLion Puppet performs around town and around the world. She created the 20-ft. orca whale and the giant icebergs on Brush Creek last spring. She is excited to be part of the group that performed 287 shows for kids and families last year—with plans to top that this year!
This fall, StoneLion performs a really fun Halloween show at Crown Center, Power and Light, Gladstone and more every weekend. All shows are free to the public. Learn more at StoneLionPuppets.org.
GP: What is your family’s favorite place in KC?:
Heather: My son and I spend hours and hours exploring the Kansas City Zoo (6800 Zoo Dr., Kansas City, MO). What a great place to learn about our planet, ride a train or boat, all with enough space to run off kid energy and have quiet talks.
GP: Favorite park in KC:
Heather: Loose Park (51st & Wornall), where you have room to fly a kite, watch the ducks or kick a soccer ball. The roses are beautiful, too.
GP: Must-see KC attraction for out-of-town guests:
Heather: The World War I Museum (100 W. 26th St., Kansas City, MO). World class museum built to engage young minds and old on a very important subject.
GP: Best-kept secret in KC:
Heather: Piropos Happy Hour (1 W. 1st St., Parkville, MO). Reasonably affordable wine choices, awesome appetizers like empanadas and fish tacos and the best view looking out over the river from the deck on the hill. They even have fire pits if it's a chilly fall evening.
GP: Best fall tradition in KC:
Heather: Bike trails to see the fall color. There's Weston, Longview Lake, Shawnee Mission. Every autumn we discover a new one.
GP: Best Christmas tradition in KC:
Heather: Really? The Plaza Lights, of course. One of my earliest memories was my fiancé’s driving me into KC through the Plaza when the lights were on to show off his city.
GP: Best date night for parents:
Heather: Screenland Armour (408 Armour Rd., North Kansas City, MO). A quiet place to go snuggle on a couch with your honey and a glass of wine . You can watch a great film on the big screen!
GP: Best pizza: Heather: Tim's Pizza (17201 E. US Hwy. 40, #117, Independence, MO). GP: Best frozen treat: Heather: Yogurtini (4853 Main St., Kansas City, MO) outside the Plaza Library.
GP: Best barbecue:
Heather: This is a big fight in our household, so we keep having taste tests. Right now, Arthur Bryant's on the Vine (1727 Brooklyn Ave., Kansas City, MO).
