The Fairy Princess has been visiting Kansas City every winter since 1935 to grant children's wishes for the holiday season! Girls and boys come from all over to celebrate the holidays with the Fairy Princess. Every year, she is at the Kansas City Museum (3218 Gladstone Blvd., Kansas City, MO) on the first three weekends in December, to grant wishes and take pictures with the children of Kansas City. The children also enjoy making crafts and bringing home fun treats.
GP: As a child, what was your favorite place to visit in KC?:
Fairy Princess: Growing up in the Fairy Princess Castle up at the North Pole, I would come visit KC every winter with my fairy grandmother! I enjoy visiting places like the Kansas City Museum, Kline’s Department store in downtown Kansas City and, now, Zona Rosa.
GP: Favorite family-friendly KC restaurant:
Fairy Princess: I have a hankering for Pandolfi’s Deli (538 Campbell St., Kansas City, MO) when I’m in town. I love going there for lunch and getting a sandwich. I hear they are now open for dinner Fridays and Saturdays. I may have to stop in this December.
GP: Favorite park in KC:
Fairy Princess: I love the beautiful Kessler Park that is nestled next to the museum. It has one of the most wonderful sledding hills in Kansas City. If you’re lucky enough, you just might see me ride down the hill.
GP: Must-see KC attraction for out-of-town guests:
Fairy Princess: The iconic Cliff Drive (CliffDrive.org) that runs through the historic northeast Kansas City community. It’s a beautiful, scenic drive through nature, in an urban setting!
GP: Best-kept secret in KC:
Fairy Princess: Boulevard Bakery (2815 Independence Ave., Kansas City, MO). They have the best cookies and cakes around.
GP: Best fall tradition in KC:
Fairy Princess: Halloween in the Northeast. Approximately 7,000 people will line Gladstone Boulevard by the museum for a safe trick-or-treating experience. The museum holds a Fairy Princess costume contest each year, and I’ve been known to come down from the North Pole to check out the gorgeous princess costumes.
GP: Best Christmas tradition in KC:
Fairy Princess: Well, visiting me, the Fairy Princess, of course! KC families have been visiting the princess since 1935 at Kline's Department Store! Parents and grandparents all throughout KC remember getting their wishes granted and then sharing the experience with their children!
GP: Best date night for parents:
Fairy Princess: Hard Hat Happy Hour at the museum. It’s truly one of the most beautiful buildings I’ve been in. You get to see the beautiful architecture of the museum and parents can taste some wines from the Cellar Rat.
GP: Best theater:
Fairy Princess: The Kansas City Museum’s StoryTarium! I’ve learned so much about Kansas City’s wonderful history by watching films inside the museum’s movie theater.
