Kaleidoscope
Cost: FREE
Hallmark is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Over the past century, it has contributed so much to Kansas City. As a parent, one contribution that I consider to be a real treasure to our community is Kaleidoscope. It is located at Crown Center and allows children to use their imaginations to create their very own masterpieces. Everything from watercolor paints to markers to melted crayons to cut-out shapes is available for young artists.
My oldest, Tori, loves to do arts and crafts. In fact, she says she would like to be an art teacher when she grows up. I agree that art projects are fun and I try to do as many as possible with the girls, but I find that storing and unpacking all the supplies each time can be cumbersome. That’s one of the many reasons I love a field trip to Kaleidoscope.
In addition to the fact that all the art supplies are out and ready for use, I don’t have to worry about putting them away when my girls are finished. The girls are free to create and explore and move from station to station. We always arrive home from Kaleidoscope with a bag full of treasures and memories of a fun day spent together.
Kaleidoscope offers several different sessions. The Family Art Time is an opportunity for parents and children to work together painting, drawing and creating. The Independent Art Sessions, where children work without a parent, are geared to ages 5-12, and the Preschool Art Sessions for 3- 5-year-olds are by reservation only.
When winter starts to feel like it is never ending and you find yourself looking for something to do to get out of the house, head to Kaleidoscope. The kids will have a great time creating, you won’t have to worry about cleaning up yet another mess and best of all you can enjoy it for FREE! What are you waiting for?

Although free, tickets are required. Consider picking up your tickets a bit early to help ensure entry into the desired session.
