KC Wheel, our city's new 150-foot-tall Ferris wheel, isn't just a great new attraction for locals and visitors, it is also a great spot to host special family memories.
This winter, KC Wheel started offering gender reveals, and they invited KC Parent magazine to host the first one in our city.
We were excited to invite new-parents-to-be, Jake and Brooke Coombes, to be the first family to experience a gender reveal at Kansas City's new downtown Ferris Wheel.
The Coombes and many of their closest friends and relatives gathered at Pennway Point in front of the KC Wheel for the big announcement. As they watched the 150-foot-tall Ferris Wheel spin, display a fun light show, and finally finish on the gender reveal color... pink for a girl or blue for a boy... they celebrated the news with their family and loved ones.

Below is an interview with the new parents-to-be:
“It was awesome, it really caught me off guard with the lights…it was amazing, it was like the greatest thing I could have thought of.” laughed Brooke Coombes, the expectant mother of baby Coombes.
“Yes, I was not expecting how it flickered and then it was white and then all at once it was blue,” said son-to-be-dad Jake Coombes.
When asked if the couple had picked out a name they said, “We had one for a girl… we were caught a little flatfooted there, but we like J names.”
After the reveal, the Coombes and their guests enjoyed a ride and one-of-a-kind views of the beloved KC skyline. The private gondolas seat up to six people and offer floor-to-ceiling windows with a 360-degree view of the city.
