Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed Review
Get ready to rock and roll with everyone’s favorite hairless rodent, the naked mole rat! Inspired by Mo Willems’ book of the same name, Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed, The Coterie’s most recent production chronicles the story of Wilbur, a brazen mole rat that feels inspired to blaze his own path against the wishes of his pack that loves nothing more than being…well, naked! The ensemble includes a trio with coffee-shop inspired monikers, Tall, Grande, and Venti, their beloved patriarch Grand-pah, as well as a cast of zany sidekicks that just don’t quite get what allure accessories hold for Wilbur.
Wilbur is convinced he can win the tunnel colony over when he opens up his own clothing store. Only instead of praise, Tall, Venti, and Grande scoff at Wilbur’s fashion-centered entrepreneurial endeavors. After all, what’s the purpose of a hat when you stay underground and don’t see sun anyway? Unphased, Wilbur stays true to his passions. The colony calls an emergency meeting with Grand-pah who hems and haw’s his way into determining the colony’s clothing/no-clothing fate with much deliberation and a well-suited proclamation (no pun intended). With wise old Grand-pah’s backing, the mole rats discover that there might be something more to life… like pants, ties, and argyle socks! And ultimately together they conclude that it’s important to be comfortable in your own skin (clothing optional).
This silly tale is littered with musical numbers and toe-tapping dance routines. In true Coterie fashion, children can get an up close and personal seat at ground level with floor seating. Special accessories like light-up/glow-in-the-dark spectacles are sold at the front desk for an additional charge. While there, don’t forget to to check out the Smithsonian’s live feed of a real pack of mole rats, while also taking in fun facts sprinkled across the booth. Parking at Crown Center is free with validation, which can be provided at the Coterie’s front desk or any other Crown Center retailer.
For over 45 years, The Coterie Theater has been providing quality professional theater for the whole family. Time Magazine ranks it among the top five theaters for children and families in the country with a reach to over 2.2 million people. Their hour long performances are great introductions for the next generation to fall in love with live theater and musicals.
