Located in Bonner Springs near the intersection of K 32 and Hwy 7, Moon Marble is a toy museum, marble factory and gift store all rolled into one. They have been making marbles since 1997 right here in the Metro!
From the sidewalk chalk offered outside the door to the games set up inside for kids to play with, Moon Marble is a hands-on destination great for a field trip or a fun day out with your children. My girls and I have visited twice and each time is a memorable event. Be sure to check the website before your visit to see the marble making presentation schedule. The girls enjoyed watching how the marbles were made. There is even a closed-circuit television to catch the action. My youngest was impressed that the woman making marbles was “on TV!”
After watching the marbles being made, we spend time at the “museum” that showcases many different sizes and types of marbles. I think my favorites are the marbles with each president on them. In addition to the marbles, I really enjoy looking at all the toys they have for sale. You’re sure to see some that bring back memories from your childhood. They also have some toys set up for the kids. We have a marble run at home and it’s not nearly as cool as the all wooden one at Moon Marble!
Our visits are not complete without choosing some marbles to bring home. For under $4.00, the children get a plastic tube they can fill with marbles. My oldest has trouble making decisions, so we allow plenty of time for her to examine all the marbles available to choose from. I hear lots of “ohhs” and “ahhs” as the girls look over the selection. They also enjoy hearing the names of the marbles, sometimes selecting one purely because they like the name.
If you don’t live close to Bonner Springs, make a day out of it. Moon Marble is minutes from the Bonner Springs City Park and a stone’s throw from Dairy Queen. Just down the road is a restaurant called “Sisters.” We met some friends there for breakfast on Saturday morning and then all went to Moon Marble. Fun for all ages!
