Smitty's Garage: Ward Parkway Review
Smitty's Garage Burger and Beer 8811 State Line Rd, Kansas City, MO 816.731.1455
This past weekend, my family checked out the new Smitty's Garage Burger and Beer at Ward Parkway. The fast-casual restaurant serves burgers ($5-7), tacos ($6-7), fabulous house cut fries and house made chips, and a selection of great appetizers.
Burgers and fries? Not super orginal, right? But wait... Smitty's isn't your typical burger joint. This restaurant specializes in specialty burgers- and we're talking specialty - The Garage offers everything from bison to turkey to angus beef burgers to vegan patties. And their fries... the house cut fries served with a variety of dipping sauces (the garlic aIoli is terrific) and homemade chips were my personal favorite by far.
My girls ordered grilled cheese sandwiches, a classic cheeseburger, fish and chips and the taco basket. All four girls loved their meals. The tacos were fresh and spicy, my taco lover gave them two thumbs up. The girls loved that kids' meals ($4.99-5.49) were followed the a bomb pop.
My husband and I each tried one of the burgers. I tried the Spicy Sriracha Bleu Burger (Sriracha Ranch, Grilled Onions, Grilled Jalapeños, and Bleu Cheese Crumbles). It lived up to its name. The burger was spicy with a firey kick of sriracha. My only challenge was trying to finish the burger... their patties are generous! Ron tried the Fried Onion Burger (Thinly Sliced Onion Cooked Into The Patty, Topped with Mustard, Pickle, and American Cheese). Both burgers were juicy and delicious. After perusing the menu further, we found other combinations we'd love to try (Sweet New Mexico burger with hatch chiles, the Sticky Finger with peanut butter, and Bacon Avacado Ranch burger).
In addition to the tasty dishes we tried, they also sell fork and knife hot dogs, sandwiches, nachos and chili.
Smitty's isn't just a restaurant though... it wants to become a part of the neighborhood and that was evident in the outgoing friendliness and hospitality of their staff. From the counter where we placed our order, to the waitstaff, to the bar tender, to the manager - everyone at Smitty's was friendly, quick-to-serve, and welcoming. And, they didn't just extend their friendliness and hospitality to our family - we saw their smiles and kindness offered to all of their customers. They made us feel welcome. Pairing that with the fun atmosphere, and delicious food, this makes Smitty's a great place to take the kids out for family night.
Or, if you're looking for a fun date night, they have B-I-N-G-O night every Friday at 8pm (it's free to play and there are prizes).
Our family had a great time at Smitty's and we can't wait to try it again!
