People often talk about their favorite things to do with kids in Kansas City and at the top of my list is always The Kansas City Zoo. We LOVE the zoo and all it has to offer. We've been members for the last two years and I firmly believe that a zoo membership is one of the best deals in town. You can get a membership that gets your family free admission for the whole year for the price of just a couple of visits. We always upgrade our membership (also a very reasonable charge) so that we can ride all of the fun rides as much as we want...I definitely recommend that for any family whose kids love that train as much as mine do!
There is just so much to explore at the zoo...from Nikita the Polar Bear to the brand new Aerial Tram to the "little" things like the little cave in Africa or the snake house...there is something for everyone there! My kids love the carousel and the train, of course, and visiting their favorite animals like the giraffes and red pandas. I love that the zoo is easy to navigate with lots of room for the kids to run around. The zoo is so large that we always discover something new when we go, but yet it has a great layout if you just want a quick visit to see a few animals. Sometimes we go for a whole day, sometimes we go for just an hour. We ALWAYS have a good time.
My kids have both gone to summer camps at the zoo and those are excellent as well. They do a great job of teaching kids about animals while letting them have a lot of fun. I can't recommend the summer programs highly enough...we go back every year! They also put on some fun special events each year like Jazzoo and Boo at the Zoo.
The Kansas City Zoo is simply a treasure for the families of Kansas City. If you haven't visited...go now! (Did you know that Kansas City, MO residents get in for free in October and November...bring proof of residence!) If you have been once or twice...get a membership for next year! And if you want to support the zoo, vote YES on November 8th to approve the 1/8th cent sales tax that will provide needed funds for the zoo so that they can continue to add new exhibits and to operate all of the wonderful programs that we have the privilege of being a part of as Kansas Citians. **This is just my personal opinion (regarding the vote), not the opinion of KC Parent...but I feel it is important enough to share with everyone I know! We love the zoo and want it to get better and better!! --Sara Keenan**
