The Experience:
I am not a motorcycle enthusiast (insert laugh at this "the understatement of the year"). I went on a tour of the Harley-Davidson Factory with my husband, brother-in-law, and a friend... all fascinated to watch how it's done. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, but I was happy to go along for the ride. The surprise? I had a BLAST! Face it, it’s not every day that you get to see an factory assembly line process in action as American workers assemble a motorcycle from start to finish right before your eyes... in just 45 minutes!
The tours are led by a guide who provides you with safety gogles and a radio to hear the tour. You start with a short video on the history of Harley-Davidson and the dream of American motorcycles, then you are led through the factory by a guide. It was fascinating to watch the effiency of the facotry as workers build complete motorcycles in 45 minutes (plus paint drying time). You witness the entire process from robotic welding, to laser-cutting and frame-bending, to polishing and assembly. In the visitor’s center, you can sit on current production motorcycles and visit the gift shop.
Whether you are an avid motorcyclist or simply possess a passing curiosity... this is one Must See Attraction in KC I recommend for all visitors (ages 12 and up)!
