Last year I decided I was going to have a garage sale. I had way too much stuff in my home and wanted to clear it out. I also thought it would be fun to take a vacation, so I decided the garage sale monies would be our vacation fund. Well. I am not a garage sale person (haven’t ever really been to one) and haven’t hosted, so needless to say, I didn’t end up with much stuff sold. Luckily, I had made arrangements to have the things that didn’t sell donated, so I did accomplish the goal of getting stuff out of my house. (BTW, if you’re thinking of hosting a garage sale, be sure to check out Hallie Sawyer’s fabulous tips - I’m confident if I had these tips before my sale I would have been much more successful!).
Anyhow, back to the point of the sale, clearing my house. I was in a “get rid of everything” mood and had A LOT of things for sale that I used when the girls were babies. As I was taking everything out, I got to thinking about people coming to visit (especially out of town family. Many of my siblings have young children) and what I would want to have around for their visits. Here’s what I kept: pack-n-play, highchair, stroller, booster seat and a few toys. My sister was in town a few weeks ago with my nephew (he’s 8 months old and quite possibly, one of the cutest little guys around!). I was so thankful that I had held onto the items above. They came in so handy and it made travel easier for my sister as she didn’t have to worry about packing those larger items. So, when you get in the mood to get rid of it all, assess the situation and see if there aren’t a few items you may want to keep.
Oh, and since you are probably dying to know, I made less than $200 with the sale. Definitely not worth the time and effort I put into it.
