SUMMARY:Light Lab Grand Opening at Science City
DESCRIPTION:Light Lab is powering on! Join us at Science City in Union Station Kansas City on May 6th to explore Light Lab\, an exhibit that delves into the magic and wonder of the electromagnetic spectrum. This newest Battle of the Brains exhibit\, created by the bright minds of students from Delta Woods Middle School in Lee’s Summit\, Missouri examines light in all its \nforms — both seen and unseen. \nLight Lab spans over 3\,000 square feet and features the following interactive exhibits: \nSpectral Inspector: All elements have a unique emission pattern\, like a fingerprint. Visitors can use a spectrometer to identify certain elements based on their special light emission. \nCosmic Comms: Radio waves travel at the speed of light and can pass through walls and space. Guests can examine the science behind Wi-Fi and astronauts communicating with people on Earth. \nHarness the Light: When light passes through prisms\, it bends\, separating into rainbows. Visitors get the chance to experiment with prisms and have fun bending light. \nRefraction Action: Refraction occurs when light moves between mediums\, often distorting an object’s appearance. Guests can play with lights and different items to see how they interact. \nLaser Quest: Lasers are created when excited atoms release photons\, forming a concentrated light beam. Those up for a challenge can choose an adventure as they explore the properties of lasers. \nSilhouette Shuffle: Not all shadows are dark. Visitors can step into the light and have fun with their shadows as they shift\, overlap\, move and dance under various conditions. \nVivid Van Glow: Unleash the artist within. Art comes alive with the interplay of light and special reactive paint\, allowing guests to create captivating visuals that are picture-perfect masterpieces. \nColor Fusion: Visible light consists of red\, green and blue. Our eyes detect these wavelengths\, and when they mix\, our brains perceive different colors. Mix colors and see what new ones are created. \nVein Vision: When exposed to some forms of light\, veins absorb the light making them visible to the human eye. Those who are curious can take a look inside their bodies with the help of infrared light.
