I love to make creative and fun meals for my family, but sometimes it's nice to have a quick go-to when we're craving creativity and fun, but time/energy/wellness aren't up for Martha Stewart's standards.... This weekend, we enjoyed a couple simple, but fun meals the kids loved!
First, our Snowman Breakfast (serve with eggs, fruit, or other healthy accompaniments as the snowman is entirely "treat" breakfast):
To Create: Stack three powdered donuts (as shown), add pretzel sticks for arms, a candy corn nose, and raisins for eyes and buttons. Can use icing or food coloring markers to create a smile (or for eyes/buttons).
On Friday, we held a Pie Eating Contest. At the inspiration of our second daughter, Kayla, this has become a family tradition. Each contestant is served a SMALL slice of pie on a plate and they race to determine who can eat it the fastest... with their hands behind their backs. The result always leads to lots of giggles and great pride if they beat Daddy, or Grandpa, or Uncle Jeff. Note: Pumpkin Pie is great for a "less messy than cherry pie" option! :)
Then, Sunday afternoon lunch was leftovers and sandwiches. To make sandwiches a touch more fun for the kids, I let them draw pictures on their bread with food coloring markers (usually used for decorating cakes and cookies). You can purchase these in the baking aisle or at stores that sell cake/cookie decorating supplies:
Now, you tell me... what are your favorite fun ideas for meal time?
